The Grapevine is a little “lighter” this month. Perhaps it has shed its extra poundage from Christmas OR perhaps no one knows that it’s FREE and/or doesn’t realize the value of free advertising— no, that’s not possible. We Marketers cringe at the thought. Really, we’d love to have your company’s announcements. All you have to do is send little old me an email asking graciously to insert your announcement – of course, it never hurts to throw in a gift or cash prize...

15th Annual Calgary Mining Forum

Speaking of women athletes, (no, not me – I wish! – GS), but GEDCO is a proud sponsor of Beckie Scott, silver medal winner in the Women’s Team Pursuit in cross country skiing with partner, Sara Renner. We’ve always been proud to sponsor Beckie, and even more now that she’s been chosen to join the IOC Athletes’ Commission – way to go Beckie!.We’re hoping that she’ll be making an appearance at our Open House in May. On that note, it’s coming soon, the Open House that’s becoming THE place to be. Watch for your invitation and check out GEDCO’s website for more details at www.gedco.com. It’s not to be missed.

The Calgary Mining Forum is Alberta’s foremost convention for anyone involved in mineral exploration and mine development in Alberta, across Canada and around the world. Technical talks by industry and government experts will be presented, as well as short courses, posters and a trade show. The trade show and poster sessions are open to the general public.

The Calgary Mining Forum, to be held at the Ramada Inn (708 - 8 Ave. SW), Calgary, Alberta, on April 25-28, 2006, has two essential objectives: (1) to highlight mineral exploration in Alberta, and (2) to provide western Canadian mineral exploration companies an opportunity to put their projects before an interested public.

WiSE

The 6th annual Women in Seismic (WiSE) golf tournament is coming soon. This year the tournament will be held at the Fox Hollow Golf Course in Calgary on Monday August 14th, 2006. This event is an excellent opportunity for networking amongst your peers in a fun environment all while supporting a great cause!

The charity that we are supporting is the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. We are delighted to say that due to the fantastic support by the industry in previous years, we (you) have raised over $11,000 for breast cancer research! As in the past, the entire cost of sponsoring a hole is given directly to the Breast Cancer Foundation. This year we will also be raffling off some great prizes in support of this charity, so bring your purses ladies! This year ’s WiSE committee members are:

  • Joanne Poloway (Sigma) joanne.poloway@sigmaex.com (294-6412)
  • Danielle Harrison (Geo-X) danielle@geo-x.com
  • Kristy Manchul (Sigma) kristy.manchul@sigmaex.com
  • Megan Huckvale (Breaker Energy) mhuckvale@breakerenergy. com
  • Cortney Wood (Penn West) cortney.wood@pennwest.com
  • Zubeda Ramji (Divestco) zubeda.ramji@divestco.com

We are in the process of trying to develop a website for more information on the tournament and will most likely have solicited a few of you for sponsorship by the time this note appears in the RECORDER. If you would like more information on Hole Sponsorship please contact either Kristy or Zubeda. If your company would like to donate prizes for the tournament, please feel free to contact any of the committee members. Entry forms for the tournament may be obtained by contacting any committee member and we will email/fax them to you. The tournament fills up fast, so get your entry forms and money in as soon as possible. Please send all completed entry forms and money for the tournament to “Women in Seismic c/o Joanne Poloway” at Sigma. Last year was the first year we had a sell-out (144 Ladies) and we would love to see that again this year.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all past committee members who have made this tournament a great success and a really fun day. A special mention goes to Sandy Ulevog from Arcis who has organized this tournament for the past few years and has really helped it become the success it is today. I hope to repeat her success in the years to come.

Eagle Geophysical

Considered one of the best and not to be missed Xmas parties on the party circuit, Eagle Geophysical held their annual bash on Friday, December 2 in their historic office at 209 6TH Ave, SW. The over 250 guests enjoyed superb food, spirits, the music of Steve Kennedy and as an added bonus, the 6 piece band ‘Hoodoo Dust’, which was led by Eagle employees Ian Whyte and John Pilkey.

The party continued until the wee hours of the morning and Eagle president, Rob Wood and his wife Eileen, could be seen leading the many dancers who crowded the dance floor. Each year this party gets bigger and better, so we’ll wait and see how next year will unfold.
