This month I would like to remind everyone that at the CSEG/CSPG/CWLS convention in May will once again be supporting Light Up the World with a silent auction. This is a very worthwhile charity providing a renewable energy source to the third world. As members of the energy industry I urge everyone to support this worthwhile cause. The committee is still gathering donations for the Silent Auctions, so please contact Laurie Ross ( Divestco, 298-5614) if you would like to donate. For more information visit www.lutw.org.

IN MEMORIUM...

Last month Bill Quirk was kind enough to share his story of how he got involved in the seismic industry. On March 12, 2008 I received the message below from Bill. On behalf of the RECORDER, I would like to extend our sincerest sympathies. CS

Barbara Jean Quirk, my loving wife of 34 years passed away this morning. Barbara never let ALS defeat her, in the end it just took her.

Divestco Inc. is extremely pleased to announce that Andrew (A.J.) Kuran has joined their organization as a WinPICS Software Support Analyst. AJ is a recent graduate from the University of Calgary with two degrees – one in geophysics and the other in mathematics. In addition to his schoolwork he has worked in a variety of capacities in a mid-major oil company for the past four summers. Ranging from assisting drilling engineers plan wells to working as an exploration geophysicist.

Dr. Amos Nur, renowned Stanford University geophysicist, has stepped down from the University to join reservoir- rock analysis firm Ingrain. Dr. Nur comes to Ingrain to continue refining the company’s already landmark reservoir-rock analysis process – which he originally developed with colleagues at Stanford’s Rock Physics and Borehole Project. Ingrain combines sophisticated imaging technology and advanced computational methods to provide oil and gas operators with extremely comprehensive and accurate rock property measurements. Further, Ingrain can provide such comprehensive analyses in hours, instead of the weeks taken by traditional core labs. Several operators working in Canadian oil sands have already reaped the results of Ingrain’s technology in pilot tests.

As chief technical officer, Dr. Nur will play a critical role in ensuring that Ingrain’s technology is ready for its commercial launch, expected later this spring.
