CSEG Foundation Outreach has coordinated with the Canadian Association of Geophysical Contractors (CAGC) for many years to bring Calgary Board of Education (CBE) high school students to CAGC's Seismic in Motion (SIM), which is held annually near Waiparous, Alberta. Students and visitors from industry, academia and government saw displays of seismic recording equipment, Vibroseis™ trucks and explosive seismic sources, search and rescue, helicopters, medical services, mulching, surveying, and drones. They learned about modern acquisition techniques, workers’ rights, career opportunities, and the importance of safety. The students liked hearing experienced people talk about their jobs.

Students from Jack James, Nelson Mandela and Crescent Heights High Schools joined SAIT and University students, industry and government personnel, and a delegation of Russian geophysicists on scheduled visits to all six stations, led by volunteer CSEG Outreach guides. At the end of the day, everyone enjoyed the live explosives demonstrations.

Many thanks go to Kurt Mulhall, Devika Naidu and Annette Milbradt, the coordinators from CSEGF Outreach. The pre-trip in-school presentations to the students were given by Richard Gray. Our volunteer guides this year were Ernest Balagtas, Stephanie Benay, Tyrel Bonneteau, Sara Dobek, Lida Goldchteine, Sarah Grant, Rick Green, Jennifer Gorman, Teddi Herring, Zekai Jia, Chris Lane, Mark Lane, Wayne McKinnon, Annette Milbradt, Gregg Milne, David Minken, Ken Mitchell, Kayla Mulhall, Mark Nergaard, Nonso Kennedy Nwafor, Ahtsham Safdar, Tacita Schmid, Chelsea Squires, and Lauren Zvanciuk. Helen Isaac and Annette Milbradt presented at the CSEG station, where they gave an overview of seismic activities and how they fit into the big picture. A huge thanks goes to all presenters and volunteer guides. We also greatly appreciate the support of our generous sponsors who make this valuable experience available to the students.
